Holography awards reward innovation

19 November 2017

The DID™ Graphic Wave from Surys won the Innovation in Holographic Technology category at the Excellence in Holography Awards 2017, showcasing its role as a next generation visual security design, visually disruptive from traditional holograms.

The technology reproduces a design with two diffractive colours, visible at a direct reflection angle. When the image is 90° rotated on a horizontal plane, there is a tint permutation between two colours: its recognition is extremely easy and very ergonomic.

Also commended in the same category, were IQ Structures for its full parallax true colour embossed hologram with an RGB (red, green and blue) illumination, Opsec Security Ltd for its Alice’s Tea Party hologram and the CCL Secure produced Brunei Darussalam and Singapore $50 commemorative notes.

This year’s Excellence in Holography Awards attracted a record number of entries as the industry marks 70 years since the invention of the hologram. More than 50 entries were considered for the awards, which are organised by the International Hologram Manufacturers Association (IHMA).

The awards took place at the Holography Conference in Barcelona, Spain and saw leading holography companies gather to recognise excellence and cutting-edge technology.

  • Best Origination – Demax Holograms for its 1001 Hollars
  • Best Display of Emerging Technology/Application of Holography – Covestra and HELLA for the holographic rear lighting system
  • Best Applied Security Product – the CCL Secure produced Brunei Darussalam and Singapore $50 commemorative notes
  • Best Applied Decorative/Packaging Product – Hazen’s 2017 calendar and supporting six panel brochure/folder

Winner of the Brian Monaghan Award for Business Innovation went to Paul Dunn for his outstanding contribution to the industry. Paul has a long career in the optical security industry and has been involved in many new product and technology developments. This award recognises his contribution.

Manoj Kochar, chair of the IHMA said: “It’s fitting that in our 70th anniversary year, the winners have demonstrated once again the highest standards of quality, creativity and technical ambition.

“There have been some tremendous entries and our best wishes and congratulations go out to all those whose achievements have been recognised at this event.”
